Akokala Lake

Akokala Lake – 11.1mi / 17.8km

Akokala Lake

This quaint little lake is tucked away in the valley just north of Bowman Lake. The first part of the hike takes you up and over Numa Ridge – a gradual, steady climb of almost 900 feet. This segment of the hike is mostly in the trees until you reach Akokala Creek.

At this point, the hike levels out and you follow the creek upstream and walk the border of the burned forest to Akokala Lake. The lake is small but beautiful, with a backdrop of the towering Reuter, Kintla, and Numa peaks. On the way out, you hike the ridge again, which adds to your day’s elevation total.

Trailhead: Located at the Bowman Lake campground area.

Elevation Gain/Loss: 2,100ft / 630m
