St. Mary Lake

Rising Sun

In the St. Mary area of Glacier National Park lies an important motor inn called Rising Sun that contributed to the death of the Going to the Sun Chalet located at today’s Sun Point. Across the road from this motor inn and along St. Mary Lake, lies a picnic area and the start of the Rising Sun Trail.

The Rising Sun trail is less than a mile long and connects the campground to a boat dock. It walks along St. Mary Lake among shady cottonwood trees with wonderful views of peaks such as Red Eagle and Mahtotopa towering over the lake as well as nice rocky beaches giving the kids a great spot to skip rocks and a hike for the whole family.

Check out my recent blog about climbing Four Summits on the Fourth of July to see. It’s opened up a lot. This year, the flowers have been great and I like the new views personally. 😀
